Speed test

How fast is your internet?

Measure your real upload, ping and jitter in under 30 seconds. No ads, no sign-up, no ISP bias.

MegaV network speed
WebSocket

Live speed test

Real WebSocket measurement across 7 workloads — from WhatsApp text to Twitch streaming.

Ready when you are
We measure upload bandwidth, latency, jitter and packet loss using real WebSocket traffic.

What the numbers mean

Four metrics, each tells you something different about your line.

Upload speed

Mbps

How fast you send data — video calls, cloud backups, uploads.

Ping

ms

Round-trip delay — critical for gaming and video calls.

Jitter

ms

Variation in ping — lower jitter means steadier connection.

Packet loss

%

Dropped packets cause audio glitches and rebuffering.

What your speed is good for

Minimum speeds for common activities.

4K Streaming

Netflix, YouTube 4K

25+ Mbps

HD Video Calls

Zoom, Google Meet

5+ Mbps up/down

Online Gaming

Competitive FPS, MOBA

<50ms ping

How VPN affects speed

Modern protocols lose almost nothing. Legacy ones take a 30% hit.

ProtocolSpeed lossVerdict
WireGuardBest choice5-10%Nearly imperceptible
Xray VLESS10-15%Great for censored networks
IKEv215-20%Solid on mobile
OpenVPN25-35%Legacy, avoid if possible

MegaV uses WireGuard by default — you keep 90-95% of your raw speed.

Frequently asked questions

Speed test basics.

What is Mbps?
Megabits per second — the unit internet speeds are measured in. 1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits per second. Downloading a 1 GB file takes about 80 seconds on 100 Mbps.
Why is my speed slower than advertised?
ISPs advertise maximum theoretical speeds. Real-world results depend on your router, Wi-Fi signal, peering to the test server, time of day and how many devices share your connection.
Does VPN slow down my connection?
A little. Modern WireGuard-based VPNs lose 5-10% of speed. Legacy OpenVPN can lose 25-35%. MegaV uses WireGuard by default so the impact is usually imperceptible.
What's a good ping?
Under 30 ms is excellent, 30-60 ms is good, 60-100 ms is acceptable for most uses, 100 ms+ starts hurting video calls and online gaming.
Why is Wi-Fi slower than Ethernet?
Wi-Fi shares airwaves with neighbours and loses signal through walls. Ethernet gives you the full capacity of your line with stable latency. For the most accurate speed test, use a wired connection.
How often should I test?
Once a month to make sure you're getting what you pay for. Or immediately after an ISP issue — if speeds drop, run two tests 5 minutes apart and send screenshots to support.
Speed + privacy

Fast internet, private browsing

MegaV VPN runs on WireGuard with 10 Gbps uplinks — you keep 95%+ of your raw speed while hiding your IP.
